The BEARS announced this morning the club's 2008 preseason schedule, which will of course precede the 2008-09 regular season. Three games in all, one trip to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to face the Penguins and a pair of home games. Yes, the regular season will be a little bit later this season than we've seen in recent years. From what I understand from ...Continued |

For those of you who have some to both this and the former incarnation of my blog, you know that I've made it mission to get you as close to the action of Hershey Bears Hockey as I possibly can. The player signings, the commentary, lineups and thoughts on specific games, I'm pretty happy with what I've been able to ...Continued |

The Caps appear to be wrapping up free agent season, and that's a good thing. The parts of the puzzle that led to a Southeast Division title seem to be (almost) all returning for another kick at the can. Saturday, Washington announced the signing of Shaone Morrisonn to a one-year deal. Here's the presser, courtesy of Nate Ewell and Washington ...Continued |

Doug Yingst again has pulled off another big summer signing, this time bolstering the blue line. The BEARS today announced the signing of defensemen Bryan Helmer and Greg Amadio for the upcoming season. Helmer, pictured left, is a durable veteran defenseman that has championship experience, while Amadio, most recently with the Binghamton Senators, adds more toughness. Helmer won a Calder ...Continued |

There's a help wanted sign outside of Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre Township. Todd Richards, one of the brightest young coaches in the AHL, has been named an assistant coach under Todd McLellan in San Jose. Richards did an amazing job guiding the Pens to the Calder Cup Finals last season, much as Bruce Boudreau did before his promotion to Washington. ...Continued |

It would appear that the Norfolk Admirals are ready to name their head coach. The team has called a press conference for Tuesday in downtown Norfolk to announce the 2008-09 coaching staff. I checked around to see if any of the local papers had any scoop on what was being talked about down there, and there wasn't anything in the ...Continued |

The former BEARS head coach turned Washington rock star was honored along with BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst for their outstanding achievements. After hosting the glory years of the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers, and most recently a pair of Calder Cup Championships for the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Spectrum is going to be torn down after this season. Next to GIANT Center and Cincinnati Gardens, I've done more games in south Philly at the Spectrum than any other arena. Even though ...Continued |

The Norfolk Admirals had a tough year last year. That's probably being generous. But with a new coach on the way (Darren Rumble perhaps?)and new personnel, the boys from down south may be gearing up for a better run in 2008-09.
