The Mark French era officially begins at 10:00 a.m. this morning as Hershey's first-year coach runs his first practice at his first training camp along with new assistant coach Troy Mann. Although there are only a handful of "household" names at Camp French so far, one of the guys fans can look forward to seeing today is former Bears captain and two-time Calder Cup winner Boyd Kane. Kane, Greg Amadio, Bryan Helmer and Darren Reid are among those who are already in Hershey and ready to roll. Also on hand for camp is former Bears centerman Gavin Morgan, who has already signed to play with Reading (ECHL) this season.
One other player to watch in camp this week is Washington's first round pick from this past June, Anton Gustafsson. The son of former Washington 30-goal scorer Bengt Gustafsson, Little Gus will be put through his paces this morning as well as 24 other players vying for a roster spot with the defending champs.
I'm looking forward to seeing Zach Miskovic and what he can do this week. Miskovic, a rookie out of St. Lawrence, he led all NCAA defensemen in goals last year with 16 and never missed a game in his college career (154 total).
Players that will be taking part in Day 1:
Greg Amadio-D, Andy Boudreau-C, Ben Boudreau-C, Trevor Bruess-C, Joel Broda-C, Rick Cleaver-LW, Michael Dubuc-LW, Joe Finley-LW, Todd Ford-G, Josh Godfrey-D, Anton Gustafsson-C, Jake Hauswirth-C, Bryan Helmer-D, Braden Holtby-G, Boyd Kane-LW, Scott Langdon-D, Ben McLeod-LW, Grant McNeill-D (although G-Mac is skating by himself coming back from knee surgery, getting closer), Zach Miskovic-D, Gavin Morgan-C, Darren Reid-RW, Karl Sellan-LW, Zach Tarkir-D, Patrick Wellar-D, Dylan Yeo-D.
Pictures, video and comment coming later this afternoon here at JWH, check back in later today and this evening for the latest updates...
