| BEARS ADMINISTER SAVAGE BEATING FRIDAY |
A beating felt from Bristol to East Hartford, and everywhere in between. If it was possible for a 6-0 game to be even more lopsided than it sounded, that’s more or less what we had on our hands Friday night in downtown Hartford. The Bears bowled over the Wolf Pack by a half-dozen goals, making a mockery of the stat sheet and giving Hershey its fourth road win of the season. In half of those wins, combining Friday’s effort with an 8-1 smashing of Binghamton back on October 13, the Chocolate and White have two road wins by outscoring the home team 15-1. What does that mean? When this team is clicking, you better just get out of the way. Hershey isn’t running away with anything at 6-4-0-0, but they can certainly instill fear in any team watching their game tapes.
What went right Saturday: Goaltender Jason Bacashihua is no stranger to the shutout. He’s got 15 now in his AHL career. But Friday’s effort was his first in a Hershey uniform, earning number three star honors. You knew it was Hershey’s night when Cash picked up a shutout and barely made the three stars. Bacashihua is now 3-0-0 to begin his Hershey career, with a goals against average of 1.00 and a saves percentage of 96.3 percent. Alexandre Giroux was amazing in his return to the Hershey lineup, scoring twice and notching four points. Francois Bouchard picked up the first four-point night of his AHL career Friday. Andrew Joudrey picked up the team’s second short-handed goal in as many games, and third overall this season. Just an utterly dominating performance.
What didn’t go right: Nothing of consequence to report from the Hershey side of the ledger. Hartford, a team that we’ve been touting as an upper echelon team in the Atlantic, was anything but on Friday and looks like a team that has a lot of problems. Corey Locke, a terrific offensive threat, was nearly invisible Friday. Defensively, the Pack couldn’t run with the Bears, and they didn’t get the goaltending either. With Manchester playing well, Bridgeport and Worcester looking like playoff threats and Lowell and Providence at .500 or better, perhaps the Wolf Pack aren’t the playoff lock many thought they were. You can’t win anything in this league in October. But you sure can make people think you’re a pretender.
What’s next: A home game against Albany Saturday, a quick change of laundry, and then back to New England for a four-game swing starting Wednesday night in Lowell against the Devils. |
