ALZNER, BOURQUE AND LAING ASSIGNED MONDAY
News late this Monday afternoon from Washington, where the Capitals have assigned left wings Chris Bourque and Quintin Laing as well as defenseman Karl Alzner. Alzner was Washington's number one draft pick (5th overall) in last year's NHL draft, while Bourque's dreams of being on an NHL roster on opening night were dashed for now. Laing must clear waivers before playing for HERSHEY.

Several thoughts on this from me: One, I feel bad for Chris because I know how hard he worked to get there, and I really feel for Lainger because he got such a good taste of things last year during an incredible season. Alzner, much like Mike Green and Jeff Schultz before him, will spend time in a BEARS uniform, which served the previous two very well. My biggest thought: Wow, is this team stacked right now. This is the best group of left wings I've ever seen one AHL team in my 11 years in the league. Plus a defensive corps loaded like I've never seen either. Wednesday night cannot get here soon enough.
